Nikolai's family, the Bubbles, lead The Five Dominions' Branch of Execution. Despite their more sensible front, they're an organization well-known for neutralizing threats towards the Real World. As a child, Nikolai knew very well what his family was about and he wanted to get into the action too. However, he wasn't allowed to do that for the longest time. He had two siblings, an older brother and younger sister. Despite how desperately Nikolai wanted to be involved with the family business, his older brother was the one favored for it instead as he would be the future lead to the business. As such, Nikolai was often pushed aside by his father in favor of his brother. He'd always feel like he was the punching bag of the family, especially among his siblings (the universal middle child experience). His brother was perceived as perfect and noble, in a way where he could literally manifest sparkles into reality because of how perfect he is. Nikolai was often the target of condescending comments from him. His brother often made these comments sound unintentionally rude, but they very much were intentional. As for his sister, she was just bratty and mean towards him. Due to how much their parents spoiled her, she knew there were no consequences to what she said. Yet none of this compared to the despair he felt knowing he would never be considered enough for his dream. He began to feel resentment towards his father since he was directly in control for this part of his life. Knowing that things wouldn't change, Nikolai decided to take a different approach to fulfill himself.

Despite how hard they may try to portray a certain image, many knew how aggressive and violent the Branch of Execution could get. They regularly took on the dirty work by using their skilled combat capabilities. Nikolai was fascinated by his legacy and it was a major reason he wanted to get involved in the business. But after being flat out rejected, he sought other similar opportunities. Now currently a teenager, he decided to join a gang. But not just any gang, he wanted to be a part of the most feared gang that there was. He had to look to the Ruined World since gangs like this were practically nonexistent in the Real World. He eventually found one that fit with his qualifications. This gang Nikolai wanted to join knew who the Bubbles were and so they immediately let Nikolai in. The gang members pretty much glazed him all the time so he climbed up to a higher position really quickly. During this time, his aggressive personality began to form. Due to his family life, he was a pretty angry person from a young age, but being in the gang basically amplified his emotions even further. He also got his tattoos within his time here. During his time in the gang, Niko got to work on his combat skills. He became more skilled than what he already was, but also more violent. Things would continue this way for a few years until, on a completely ordinary day, Nikolai's older brother ended up getting into a life-threatening accident. He survived, but it would end up completely physically impairing him forever. Thus, he was no longer capable of becoming the next lead of his family. Their father, the current lead of the branch, knew he had to find a solution quickly. This only meant one thing... Imagine you finally reached the thing you've always dreamed of, but it's not because you earned it, but because you're the replacement. This was all Nikolai felt the moment his father approached him with his inquiry. But it was more than that, it really was a mess of mixed feelings. On one hand, you finally have what you always wanted. But then, why did it have to be like this? Furthermore, Nikolai absolutely resented his father for all he had put him through. And he resented him even more after he approached him, because it basically confirmed that he would never be good enough for him. All of those years of him saying he didn't care about his father's approval became a lie at this moment. Well, they were always a lie. Still, it's not like Niko had a choice. His father forced him, and practically threatened him, into taking the position. So, without a choice, Nikolai once again had to give away any control over his life.

It was some rough years after that. Whether it was personal feelings or his personality, Nikolai would rebel at any chance he got. But everyone in the family knew that is Niko's father wanted something, he would do everything to get it. And now, he wanted Nikolai to behave to his will. Any type of rebellion or resistance would only end up being useless, and would just end up hurting Niko. His father would not tolerate any of this behavior for a second. Amidst the various beatings and words that honestly ended up hurting more, he understood that it would be within his best interest to compy. And little by little, Nikolai learned to tolerate his new life. His new position included various training, from combat to business PR skills. It was difficult, not necessarily because of the contents, but the highly unrealistic expectations his brother had set before him. Despite this, Niko held on. Through various discipline, he drifted from his rebellious self and began to develop the more responsible and professional front he has now. However, his anger issues did not diminish; they got even worse. When you're told to suck up your feelings all the time, it only continues to build up inside you. It's not really a surprise to see the person he's become.
