A bit of a summary for now: Damien was basically considered a prodigy from a young age. On an ordinary day while he was out playing, some recruiters would notice him and were very impressed by his talent. They immediately went to him and his parents, so he could be officially recruited. Since his family was on the poorer side, his parents immediately agreed. A bit of lore, when a person gets recruited into the Real World through the elite program, their close ones receive similar benefits too. They are not allowed into the Real World, but they live much more comfortably in the Ruined World. However, due to the amount of training he would need to receive, Damien would need to leave his parents’ home and live in the Real World with a mentor. Things started off fine, but quickly became terrible. To start, the amount of attention he would receive from media outlets was too much for him, as child famous elites are not all that common in this world. Being put into the spotlight from such a young age, he was always looked at and observed. This made him hate fame growing up, and made him hate all of these people too. Every interview, he always felt objectified. Additionally, his mentor was not the best person. He would tell Damien that he saw so much potential in him, an excuse for the harsh and grueling training. And at some point, it became abusive. Damien would call his parents, begging and crying as he asked them to go back home. But the situation was hopeless, they would always refuse. Damien stopped calling them, and after realizing how he was simply a source of profit to them, and he began to resent them too. His only choice would be to fight back against his mentor, but he didn’t have any control over his own life. Anything he did would just end up hurting him. Then there’s his injury. During one of their arguments, his mentor would end up hitting him in the back with a metal baseball bat, causing major injury. This was not career ending, he was surprisingly still able to keep playing after that. But it did cause some back pains for the baseball player, and he now has a more slouched posture. Yet it was framed as an accident during practice, just to save face. All of this made Damien develop the personality he has now. He’s always in an irritated mood, and despises all media attention. He also avoids most social interactions and prefers to be alone. As for why he is in New Sense, he would be experiencing declining relevance and performance. Most of this decline being caused by him like a form of protest. Being completely burnt out and tired, he has been avoiding any media coverage, and he sometimes even decides to not show up to his games. His relationship with baseball has become bittersweet: The thing he once loved and still loves has gone to ruin his life.
