About
Chris is a major side character for my story. A tattoo artist, he has an eccentric personality. All of my characters come from the same story set in 2006.

Personality

Chris heavily follows the chuunibyou personality trope. He basically acts as if he's some type of fictional character, mostly being influenced by video games and the internet. Essentially, he acts overly mysterious and cool, thinking of himself as more awesome than everyone else because of his abilities and special powers, which he clearly doesn't have. The reason he acts this way is due to past experiences. He used to, and still does, feel very insecure about himself. Even though he acts superior and smug around everyone, he values and cares for his close friends. He still keeps his act around them, but his friends understand him and appreciate his quirkiness.

Chris' talking style is very confusing to understand for most people. He overcomplicates his speech as to sound more mysterious and formal, turning simple expressions into longer, convoluted sentences. He uses big vocabulary words and uses terminilogy from video games, bro basically talks like a redditor irl. Essentially always roleplaying a character, but he does occasionally break character. He's also very loud and bold.
Lore
I. Character Story
Chris is the mandatory Mexican family emo who is also suspiciously white. He is a tattoo artist who works at a local tattoo shop. But he's mostly known for being that one weird guy no one understands. Those within the area have gotten to know that if you need something, like basic directions, then don't ask Chris because you'll just end up more lost and confused. Chris sort of takes pride knowing that this is his reputation, thinking of himself as a mysterious gatekeeper of knowledge that only the most worthy will have access to. Please don't tell him that he's actually just cringe.

II. Early Life
When Chris was younger, he would often be singled out by the rest of the kids. At this time, he didn't put up the personality he has now. He thought it was strange why people seemed to exclude him and see him differently, despite trying his best to fit in with the rest. At some point, he stopped trying, choosing to instead spend his recess alone at the lunch tables playing with his jacket's strings for the hundreth time. His teacher noticed this. She knew she couldn't just force the other kids to play with him, if anything that might just make things worse. Children can just sometimes be mean, as she knew. During another lone recess, the teacher came up to Chris and offered him a small machine, it was a GameBoy. She told him he could play it during recess but to return it back to her when class started. This little thing excited Chris. He would end up being glued to this, while keeping his side of the deal of course. At the end of the year, the teacher even decided to gift him the GameBoy. Throughout his early years of school, Chris would continue be alone with no friends. He truly felt terrible about himself, but it was learning about video games that brought some joy to his life.
It would be the late 90s to early 2000s, Chris lived alone with his dad, since his parents had divorced. One day, his dad brought back a blocky-looking computer. This would be something new to Chris, but he got used to it real quick. He soon learned about the Internet, and how you could talk to people online in forums. His dad was not as tech-savvy as his him and had his concerns, but Chris reassured him that he was talking to people his age. So I guess that was good enough for him, people wouldn't lie on the Internet right? Chris often hung out in gaming and anime communities, spending hours talking with others who shared similar interests. With the Internet and video games, he found that both of these things made him feel less lonely. The cool characters he wished he was like from the video games he played, and the people he spoke with online who shared having similar experiences to him; everything felt right for a moment.
Despite this, he continued to struggle with his social life in school. Middle school wasn't that great, he'd often spend all his free time sitting in a corner playing his games. Meanwhile, all the other kids would hang out and laugh with each other. Even after everything that had happenned, things hadn't changed. Chris actually hadn't stopped trying to make friends, but it was clear others didn't feel the same. He'd still be ignored, picked last in PE... But maybe it's just like video games. If something doesn't work, why not try something different?
It wouldn't be until graduating middle school where Chris would completely change himself during the summer before his entrance to high school. After discussing it with his online friends, he decided to adopt a much edgier, cooler style like from the characters he admired. Countless trips to Hot Topic, his dad was confused yet supportive. But it wasn't just his fashion style that changed. By the time high school started, he was a completely different person. Unlike the quiet and lonely kid he used to be, he was now much more loud and bold. If people thought he was weird then what's so wrong with that? He always felt like an outcast that would never fit in, but he never truly understood why. So instead, he decided to make himself stand out and be as strange as possible to the others. Because at least this time, there would be a reason why he is considered weird by those around him. It's a defense mechanism of sorts because deep down, Chris still felt self-conscious about himself. No matter who he pretended to be, it was still him. From being invisible to now unignorable, he would still be seen as odd in his school and town. This would lead to some bullying and fights towards him at school. Although this time, he would be able to actually defend himself by putting up his new persona. This actually led a few other nerdy students at his school to think he was cool, because to them Chris did actually seem like a character from a video game or anime. These all became his new friends to whom he acted like a leader to. Despite continuing to hold this bold, chunni personality, he was very happy deep down that he finally met people who understood him and saw him as a friend. He'd been talking to others for years in the computer, but it felt so nice coming to school knowing he had friends waiting for him.

III. Present Story
In the present time when the game's story starts, Chris is now out of high school and works as a tattoo artist at a shop. Even though he's no longer in the school environment he used to be, he continues acting as a character since he found that's what makes him feel happy with himself, to act as someone cooler that who he actually is. Other people still have a hard time getting across his personality, but there are others who have gotten past this and like him for who he is.

Trivia
Chris was inspired by the overall geek culture from the 90s and 2000s
He's a big Sonic fan
Despite his fear of needles, he still works as a tattoo artist. He has more of a fear of needles directly on him.
He doesn't have any tattoos for this reason
He gets insane during smash bros reveals
He likes to scam people in online browser games (like club penguin, gaia, animal jam)
He's had 6 school suspensions due to getting into fights
He caused a school lockdown once after hitting someone in the head with a fire extinguisher
His flower is the sunflower
His favorite food is pancakes. His favorite drink is lemonade
His fav Sanrio character, because I assign all my characters one (I'm whimsical and joyous), is Landry
More whimsy, bc I'm a filthy smash player, his mains are Steve and Byleth. He plays gamer characters. He likes Minecraft but also likes how broken Steve is. Exclusively plays the god Byleth skin, of course. Would main Sonic but he hates how he’s represented in smash. Bro participates in tournaments, he idolizes MK Leo)
My new obssesion is Marvel Rivals so his main is Spider-Man. Swears he's him, except he's actually pretty good at the game. Spends most of the game clip-farming. Goes 2-18 sometimes. Insta-lock dps, would rather die than to play healer.

Design

- His design is basically him putting together an outfit to look as cool as possible
- He purposely ripped the ends of his jacket, as well as adding some extra detailing to it. He bought his jeans ripped but ended up ripping them up some more
- He wears timbs because he believes they are the strongest shoes (maxing out his stats like a true gamer)
- He wears bandages to 'conceal his powers'. The ones on his arms are actual banadages and the ones he wears on his torso are from a mummy halloween costume
- His design was slightly inspired by visual kei
- His design also takes from emo and scene fashion
- His eyes are square shaped as to resemble pixels since he spends a lot of time staring at screens (he just like me fr)

Relationships

[ best friends ]
These are Chris's best friends, they all met each other in high school. They're all a bunch of nerds. They all sort of see Chris as their group leader, kind of putting him on a pedestal at times. They enjoy having game nights and ocassionally visiting Chris at his workplace.

[ acquaintance ]
Soonly after moving into the city, Chris' presence became very clear to Louis immediately. Their jobs are directly across the street from each other after all. Louis doesn't really mind Chris, he quite likes him actually. Being someone who enjoys seeing others annoyed and bothered, watching people trying to talk with and make sense of Chris feels like a comedy show to Louis.

[ friend? ]
Literally me and the baddie I pulled by being goofy. They met in high school. One of Chris' bullies dated her during that time, so they were often exposed to each other but didn't interact much. They're not in school anymore but they kinda got something going on. It's mostly a crush on Ame's part and Chris is oblivious to it. She doesn's confess or anything tho, but gets pissed off when the small hints she gives him don't work.

[ friend ]
The two became friends due to their workplaces being close to each other. Luke was initially put off by how hard it was to talk to Chris but got used to it later, even finding that they have similar interests. They like going to the arcade together, Chris always ends up beating Luke in the fighting games.
